Membership
“Generosity is the virtue that produces peace."
from The Sutra of the Recollection of the Noble Three Jewels
People participate in the Shambhala community in many ways. Many of us, once we begin to feel a connection a local group or center, want to know: What is involved in becoming a member?
First of all, there is no requirement to join. Ever. Almost all of our activities are open to anyone, though many classes and trainings do have prerequisites.
Meditation instruction and public meditation are offered without charge, though donations are certainly appreciated.
Membership is a statement about your personal inspiration, curiosity and commitment to the path of awakening. It means participating in a community of practitioners who aspire to related tow each other with honesty, warmth and openness. We inspire one another to deepen our practice of mindfulness, awareness and compassion. We also provide each other the opportunity to practice compassion and patience.
The meditation space and the environment created within it are provided by the generosity of members.
Regular financial contribution as membership dues is one expression of the connection a person feels to the Shambhala teachings; it is an opportunity to offer ourselves and our resources to further the extension of genuineness and sanity in our world.
Payment of membership dues is the financial backbone of our Shambhala Centers. Although some level of regular financial contribution is part of the membership commitment, the actual amount can always be adjusted to reflect your situation. Monthly membership dues were recently set at $50 per month. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly or annually.
We offer tuition discounts for seniors and students. No one will be excluded from teachings, classes or programs based on ability to pay.
Please contact sandiego@shambhala.org and put "Membership" in the subject line for more information on how to become a member. For information on revenue and expenses, put “Treasurer” in the subject line to request the Statement of Revenue and Expenses for the current year.
