Meditation
"Meditation is a very personal journey. Simply by being conscious of the present moment so we can ground ourselves in it, we relax our sense of self and begin to tune into reality as it is."
Sakyong Mipham
Mindfulness meditation is the foundation of all that we do at the Shambhala Meditation Group of San Diego. Originating from Shakyamuni Buddha, this 2,500 year-old practice of self-discovery is rooted in the simple, but revolutionary premise that every human being has the ability to cultivate the mind's inherent stability, clarity and strength in order to be more awake and compassionate in everyday life. There is never a charge for meditation instruction or practice.
Meditation Instruction
The Shambhala Meditation Group of San Diego has a number of authorized meditation instructors who will give instruction at no cost. Individual instruction is available Sunday mornings from 9:00-9:30 AM, Wednesday evenings from 7:00-7:30 PM, Friday from 12:00-12:30 PM and at other times by appointment.
Meditation instruction is also offered at Open Houses. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates and times.
Once you have received initial instruction, regular meetings with an instructor are encouraged. A relationship with a personal meditation instructor is integral to developing the practice of meditation. There is no charge for follow-up instruction.
For more information or to schedule instruction, please email the Center or call 619-692-2148.
Group Meditation Practice
Group meditation practice is held on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. For specific dates and times, please check our Public Sitting Schedule. Group practice includes sitting meditation and brief periods of walking meditation. On Sunday mornings there is also a contemplative meditation, a tea break and a dharma or book discussion.
