A weekthün is an intensive weeklong group meditation retreat under the guidance of a senior teacher in the Shambhala lineage.

During this week of mindfulness awareness practice, we will work with deepening our relationships with ourselves and our world, cultivating being fully present—in stillness, in movement, and in the brilliance of the phenomenal world.  As our mind settles, we can develop an embodied relationship with our physical being, awaken our sense perceptions and extend our attentiveness outward. As our heart opens and awareness expands, we can recognize the inseparability of self and other. Each day of meditation practice will include sitting and walking meditation, experiential exercises, contemplations, meditative walks through the office parks and wild spaces that surround the San Diego Shambhala Center and short teachings, drawing from the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions, about non-duality, the sacredness of the phenomenal world, and compassionate action.

This retreat is designed for both newcomers and experienced students. Vajrayana practitioners will be provided with a separate space to use for special practice and study sessions.

If you are not able to attend the whole week, you are welcome to attend for one or more days.  When you register, please indicate in the comments section which days you plan to attend. Those new to meditation are encouraged to attend at the beginning of the week if possible; if not please come whenever you can!

Use the "pay an amount other than full price" to pay for single days ($60 per day) or to apply a $25 discount for registering for the entire week.

Lunch and an afternoon tea snack will be provided.

Attending the full retreat meets the weekthün requirement for Enlightened Society Assembly and Warrior Assembly.

Shastri Ruth Wallen has been a student and teacher of Shambhala for many years.  She is a mother, artist, and professor of art.

*We have a generosity policy to make our offerings available to all who wish to participate. If the program price is an obstacle for you, please consider what works for you in your current situation, and offer as much of the program fee as you can.

For those who can offer more than the program price, we have a “patron price”. Your generosity in offering the patron price helps cover the costs for others who are not able to pay the full price.
